3/1/90 Toad's Place, New Haven, CT (Rvwd 4/95) What a SICK version
of Possum at this show!! (check out 4/30/94's version, too!!) The MikeS,
unfortunately, contained absolutely nothing worthy of mention (there was
nothing unsual about this version.. nothing... except maybe the fact that
there was nothing unusual about it, which itself is unusual, given the
diversity that Mike's Songs ALMOST always entail.. in other words, the
only thing unusual about this version was that it contained nothing unusual).
The H2 was standard. Weekapaug was just amazing, folks. I mean, what the
F#CK was up with TREY !? It is a mere 7 minutes long, TOPS, but so what!
Trey demonstrates unbelievable control and magnificent creativity for this
version. He is ALL OVER WEEKAPAUG. The Mike's Song was just not _any_ good
(was Trey even on stage for it!?? ;^). It was just as plain as it could
possibly get (it might as well be studio.. on 'Hoist'! I don't get it.
You can't tell that he became transformed during H2... I don't know what
happened, but this version of Weekapaug was (dare I use the word outside
of Boston) wicked!! Mike really WAILS in the opening segment, too, which
I can't recall ever hearing him do before (right in the beginning of Weekapaug,
Mike is strong in the mix and just wails for about 20-30 seconds!!). Trey
teases the "Bonanza" t.v. theme (Bonanza is an old Western t.v. series
that Michael Landon was in, long ago when he wasn't old.. I got this info
from my mother, BTW.. I have never seen an episode of "Bonanza" in my life..
I grew up seldom watching tv, but what little tv i watched -- and which
I remember -- consisted of Sesame Street, Land of the Lost, and Ultraman
(no relation to Ultrafunk..). This was a great, average, old version of
Weekapaug.. it's too bad that the Mike'S was so plebian. I'd give the Weekapaug
a B+ and the Mike'S a C, so, for the whole MikeS Groove, an "average" rating
of C+. I told you these ratings were misleading. two cents, charlie
