VIDEO OF THE WEEK: 1990-04-29

Well this You Enjoy Myself, and the set as a whole, will not go down in Phish history near "best ever" territory, I believe this is a cool insight to the fanbase back in the early 90's. There are no smartphones in everybody's hands trying to capture the moment, nor glowsticks going through the air. (Though humorously there is a funny comment on the video on YouTube "that one dude with a glowstick was a visionary")

It's just Phish and the crowd having a blast and getting down.

There was a much grainier version of this video put up on Youtube back in 2007, but this one got put up just before Summer 2011 tour. It is a huge upgrade. Enjoy!

chickenwing I think this video was shot by the owner. He was selling it at the ski shop the last time that I went to their skate park, which was years ago. I love these videos. Seeing the crowd from that era is great!

awesometown.

I had that VHS when I was in HS, too. the sound was subpar and the picture was crummy, but I wore the tape thin. Woodbury Ski & Racquet was a Phish video primer back in the day.

phootyjon it is such a trip to watch newer shows and then watch something like this....god bless those guys and CK5 for changing the way we all experience shows....soooo ready for LB, SF, Atlanta, Charlotte, and CO!!!!!

uctweezer My college roommate in Berkeley moved to the Bay Area in 1996 from Connecticut, and with him brought this VHS. I dubbed it in 1997 and we watched this video at least 50 times. We would always laugh about the dude with the green shirt falling off his shoulder, and wondered if he made it out of his touring days in one piece...

betweenbeams Thank you for sharing. A whole era of phish that most of us missed. Imagine being able to be right up on the stage like that! Wish I was into phish in 6th grade

solsun Thanks, good to see people enjoying Phish. Who knew it could be done without some Type II jamming, hahahahaha. And where are the signs, how did they know what to play next, hahahahahaha. And why are they dancing instead of holding their phones up to record each and every second, oh that's right they are just enjoying the moment. Must have been a special time...

nichobert You don't have to Imagine being right up on stage, go to Portsmouth next time! It's so breezy up there, I don't think it computes I peoples heads that they can get as close ad they can!

And let's be real here. Maybe 20 people have signs. Maybe 5% of people hold up their phones for more than a quick picture or two, not to mention if you gave this crowd iPhones they'd undoubtedly be fixated on recording awesome video to share too. It's funny that we love that someone recorded this for posterity and comp, son about people doing the same thing now.

And I dunno about you, buti think the comp, aunts over the lack of type 2 jamming are pretty few and far between on the grand scheme of things. Of course, a lot of kids want a 30 minute Sand that goes nowhere instead of a 7 minute Sand with 3 distinct thematic segments. 2012 is a delicious 93 redux with the band accepting cohesion. Great mix!
